View of Capri (John Singer Sargent) by John London
John Singer Sargents charming View of Capri forms the background for this lovely theme. The music is from the opening movement of the Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major (op. 30, No. 1) by Beethoven.
Expectations (Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema) by John London
This was one of my first themes and is still one of my favorites. Alma-Tadema's lovely painting Expectations is so full of yearning. I paired it with the brooding music of Danielpour's Concerto for Cello and Orchestra.
Seasons of the Heart- Charles Wysocki
This theme takes its title from a book of Charles Wysocki's art. Charles Wysocki is one of the best known painters of early American life today. Accompanying it is Francis Poulenc's Pastourelle (from L'Evantail de Jeanne) from 1927.
Reluctant Dragon (Maxfield Parrish) by John London
The Reluctant Dragon is just for fun! The background shows detail from the Maxfield Parrish painting. The music behind it - jaunty sound bites from the Sonata for Cello & Piano by Dmitri Shostakovich.
Orpheus Leading Eurydice from the Underworld (Jean Corot) by John London
The background painting is by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot's, Orpheus Leading Eurydice from the Underworld. This lovely music is taken from a recent recording of Monteverdi's Opera, L'Orfeo, first published in 1609.
Dancing Bar in Baden Baden (Max Beckmann) by John London
Dancing uses Max Beckmann's painting, Dancing Bar in Baden-Baden, as a backdrop to the music of the Darius Milhaud's suite for two pianos, Scaramouche. It's a fast Brazilian Samba. You'll find yourself humming it.
